Design Options – Materials

Here are just some of the various samples of materials available on the market today. Next to each is a brief description of the product and its installation.

Sprinklers

Design Options – Materials - SprinkersThe picture on the left is a sprinkler riser with a flex joint in the vertical position. The picture on the right is the same riser bent over as if it had been stepped on.

While pop-up risers are ideal along most walkways, in some cases these will be used when the plants selected require regular maintenance and or will quickly out-grow the effective spraying area of a pop-up.

Pipe

Design Options – Materials - PipesTo the right is a picture of two different pieces of pipe. The one on the left is a lateral line pipe. Notice that it is significantly thinner than the one on the right.

The one on the right is a static line pipe – designed to hold significantly more pressure. We use this one exclusively. For a few cents more per foot, it is cheap insurance against breakage.

Turf Blocks

Design Options – Materials - Turf BlocksAbove is a picture of Turf Blocks. If you are concerned with the aesthetics of your front yard but need to park your trailer, RV, or boat, this is a wonderful alternative to concrete strips. The above photo is a new installation. Eventually, the lawn covers over it completely.

Flagstone

Design Options – Materials - Black SlateThis is a Black Slate flagstone set in mortar. The pattern is Chaos (a random set with varying gaps between pieces).

Design Options – Materials - Bullnose BrickThis is a Chaos Pattern flagstone (having widely varying widths of gaps between stones). It has a foundation of compacted base rock, “grouted” with Decomposed Granite, and is usually framed (bordering supports) with either Pressure Treated 2x4s and or 1×4 Recycled Plastic Bender Boards. This type of installation is ideal for random pathways and secondary patios.

Concrete

Design Options – Materials - Skin StampThe concrete to the left is a skin-stamped finish with two colors. Of the various types of stamping options, this type is my favorite. For many important reasons.

Design Options – Materials - Marble StampSkin stamped concrete (two colors – liquid release) with a Tile Inlay. This is a custom marble finish.

Design Options – Materials - Bullnose BrickSkin stamped concrete (three colors – antique release) with a bullnose brick step.
